July 2015 Newsletter

Itā€™s amazing to see what many hands can do when they are drawn together for a common good.
City Gates cannot express our appreciation to have shared July 2nd with Jonathan Stewart and his group of pro football players who mingled, washed feet and handed out shoes to over 400 people. Thank you Jonathan and Samaritan’s Feet from Charlotte, Carolina who made it all possible. (The Olympian) It could not have gone smoother thanks to the 300 gallon water container donated from Lew Rents, the 20×30 tent set up for the event by Sonshine Organics, and all the chairs provided by our friends at the Union Gospel Mission. But at the end of the night it all came together because of you who came out to Street Lights to pray and share the love of Christ with so many people.

People like Julie, who was depressed over losing her son recently and was anticipating suicide, accepted prayer and a sense of hope out of a new pair of shoes. Stephen who had literally walked the soles out of his shoes and accepted Christ after having his blistered feet washed and prayed over. And John, who received prayer and asked for a guitar which he received a week later. 18 people were reported to have received or rededicated their lives to Jesus Christ including 3 kids from our childrenā€™s ministry tent. That, in my book, is considered a good night!

Letā€™s do it again with our annual Back to School Backpack Giveaway scheduled for Thursday, August 13th! Already we have set the course to meet our goal of 1000 backpacks ready for kids, who otherwise may not have the chance to be styling back to school. Keep the momentum going by dropping off your donated school supplies, backpacks and new or gently used school clothes at Big Toms, who partners with City Gates as a drop off location. Make sure you purchase a Burger while youā€™re there! Other drop off locations for donations are listed on our website. If you are interested in financially supporting the event or volunteering, Go to www.citygatesministries.org and donate or sign up under ā€œBecome a volunteerā€ We look forward to seeing you in August and thank you for all that you do!

Just a sincere reminder to all of you who believe in helping people in need through City Gates through your financial blessing. The month of July will be dedicated to our loving friends, the Karen and Sammy Velderrian family. Karen is now home on Hospice after back surgery from cancer. We are believing in God’s intervention as well as your financial support to carry them through. Thank you for your support and thank you Charlieā€™s Safari for entertaining Karenā€™s son Gabriel and daughter Emily for 9 hours of total fun and excitement at your facility. It will not be soon forgotten.

Make sure you purchase your tickets to City Gates’ 6th Annual Auction and Dinner, Saturday, November 7th, hosted at Westwood Baptist Church located at 333 Kaiser Rd. NW, Olympia, WA 98502. This is a great opportunity to come together to continue to support City Gates in assisting the disadvantaged throughout Thurston County. What a great place to meet all those who share in making City Gates possible.

Thank you for all that you do!
