Lacey Women’s Club (2025-June 2026) Updates Soon!!!
The City of Lacey Historical Commission, at its the June 18, 2025 meeting, approved an application to modify the use of the 726 square foot one-story structure located at 827 Lacey Street. The building was most recently the clubhouse of the Lacey Women’s Club, and is situated directly in front of the Russell House, which has served for years as the site of the Lacey Museum. The Commission’s action was necessary because the structure is on the City of Lacey’s register of historic places.

The application was submitted by City Gates Ministries, a local faith-based non-profit organization, which proposes to convert the clubhouse into a residential dwelling to be used by “an individual, couple or small family who would otherwise be unhoused or housing challenged, or for those with functional disabilities.” City Gates Ministries has committed to retain the historic character of the property, with minimal changes to the exterior. Changes to the interior will preserve the current finishes and be limited only to changes necessary to convert the building to a residence from its prior use as a clubhouse.

Although the clubhouse was primarily used for social gatherings of the club and other organizations, from the very beginning, the focus of the club was as means to support charitable causes. Over the years, the club donated home-made quilts, other goods and money to the Children’s Farm Home in Lacey, the Children’s Orthopedic Hospital, the Fircrest School and the McKenna Nursing Home. In 1979, the club also donated the “back half” of their property to provide the location of the Lacey Museum.
Due to declining membership in recent years, and the expense of maintaining the clubhouse, the Women’s Club transferred ownership of its remaining property and the structure to City Gates Ministries.
